Hello, I’m Louis.

You don’t have to carry it all.

Life can feel heavy when you’re navigating questions of meaning, health challenges, or the weight of an unfair world. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, burnt out or disconnected from yourself, I will listen without judgment and take time to understand what you’re going through.

My approach is humanistic, anti-racist and anti-oppressive. Every part of your identity, background and lived experience is welcome.

My practice & what I bring

I offer a free 20-minute online consultation or phone call. I can listen to what brings you here and help you decide whether counselling with me feels right.

My practice

Your life doesn’t
happen in a vacuum.

My work makes room for the world around you, as well as what’s happening within you.

Trained in Humanistic Counselling and Psychotherapy at the University of Brighton, my approach is centred on empathy, non-judgmental curiosity and helping you reconnect with your own capacity for healing and growth.

Whether you’re moving through a major life transition, feeling overwhelmed or disconnected, or needing time to rest and reflect, I will work at your pace. I work with adults, including young adults and older adults, in Brighton, Hove and online.

What I bring to my work.

My practice is informed by real-world experiences across varied and challenging settings.

Illness, grief & questions of meaning

Through my ongoing work at the Macmillan Horizon Centre, I sit alongside people navigating serious illness, grief, physical vulnerability and profound questions of meaning.

Work, burnout & belonging

I have worked in large organisations and understand the subtle and overt pressures of corporate life, from chronic burnout to the struggle of maintaining your identity inside rigid institutions.

Academic life & its pressures

My experience of completing a PhD has given me insight into the landscape of academia, including the isolation, imposter syndrome, perfectionism and many pressures that can accompany doctoral research and higher education.

Fatherhood & competing responsibilities

I bring a particular focus to the complexities of fatherhood, and the difficulty of juggling family, personal and professional responsibilities while finding room for yourself.

I am a Registered Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP), membership number 421844.

Your questions

Before you begin.

Starting counselling can bring questions of its own. Here are a few things you may want to know.

What happens in the initial consultation or phone call?

I offer a free 20-minute online consultation or phone call. I will listen to what has brought you to counselling, answer your questions and help you consider whether my approach feels right for you.

What is your approach?

My approach centres on empathy and non-judgmental curiosity. I offer space to explore your experiences and feelings, and to reconnect with your own capacity for healing and growth. I will work at your pace.

How often are sessions, and for how long?

I offer both short- and long-term therapy. Sessions last 50 minutes, and I recommend meeting weekly to begin with. Fortnightly sessions or other intervals may be agreed where appropriate. I offer daytime appointments on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Do you offer online counselling?

Yes. I offer online counselling as well as in-person sessions in Brighton and Hove. If you would prefer to meet online, let me know when you get in touch and I can discuss the arrangements with you.

Are my sessions confidential?

I keep what you share confidential, with exceptions for professional supervision and relevant legal or safeguarding responsibilities. I discuss aspects of my work in regular supervision, where confidentiality is also protected. If I have serious concerns about safety, I would discuss these with you wherever possible. I will explain confidentiality before counselling begins.

Can I discuss access needs before my first session?

Yes. Please let me know about any access needs when you enquire so I can discuss the in-person or online arrangements with you before counselling begins.

What if I want to finish counselling?

I believe you know best when you are ready to stop. I will help you find an approach to ending that feels right for you, giving it time and consideration.
